Riley is about a year and a half now.  He is a Jack Russell/rat terrier mix and weighs about 17 pounds.  He is a sturdy little fellow who is quite fearful.  He is not a fear biter but is a fear runner.  If he is cornered, he may try to bite to escape but he has not bitten anyone.  He gets along with other dogs, but fears all strangers, in spite of being socialized from a young age to various situations at adoption events.  He now wears a Thundershirt which has helped him a great deal as it eases his anxiety when he is out in public.  He probably would not do well with small children, but teenagers should be okay if they are used to being around dogs.  His ideal home would be in a home where the primary caregiver is a women (he relates best to women) with at least one other dog.  She will need to have lots of patience because Riley require a long period of adjusting to new situations.  In his foster home he has no trouble relating to family members including dogs and cats; in fact he behaves like any other dog, running and playing outside with other small and medium size dogs, even jumping into foster mom's lap for petting.  In a new home he will not act that way for a long time, maybe even months until he trusts his new family.  Riley is crate trained and loves his crate since he feels safe in it.  He does know some basic obedience commands but only from people he knows well.
